he who laughs last...

The ugly mohair catsuit sold this afternoon on eBay for a grand total of $480.00 U.S.! Now for a momentary panic, the Yarn Harlot's blog shows the official Knitting Olympic time left at just over 1 day and 19 hours. Now normally this is plenty of time to complete multiple projects. Unfortunately, times aren't normal. The Queen/David Bowie song, "Under Pressure" is stuck in my head as I sand drywall. Break time is over, back to work!

Happy Friday!

I just received ANOTHER fabulous e-card from my SP7 Cindy!

She has been so consistantly thoughtful throughout this exchange. Thank you very much, I LOVE the sheep.

After many hours of searching blogs to find her she took pity and dropped some huge clues to assist me (it felt like looking for WMD in Iraq before that).

Her Blogsite is Whimsical Wool . Not only does she spin, but she makes socks like there is no tomorrow. After the Knitting Olympics is over I plan on using the lovely Piece of Vermont Granny Smith green yarn that she sent me to make some Jaywalker socks. It seems that everyone in the free world has made these socks and I feel like an outcast. Anyway, if you have a chance go check out Cindy's site, she's awesome. And now that she has been publicly revealed I can officially add her to my blog roll.

Amber received a 4 (equivalent to an A) on her science fair experiment! I must say that school was much less demanding when I was a child. High expectations are not a bad thing, but I wonder how I'd have coped in today's world. Heck, Autumn has an oral report coming up that requires visual aids and a timed, memorized speech. She will be graded on content, delivery (eye contact, annunciation, loudness, etc.) her visual aid use and overall neatness. Back when I was in the first grade (1972, I think) we were reading about a jigging pig or some such nonsense and finger painting.

Time to drive Ashley to preschool. I hope her day is uneventful (no spilled juice, naughty words that upset the teacher, etc.).

Have a great weekend!

Kool-Aid dyed Wookie

My Mom always said that if I couldn't say anything nice then I should keep my mouth shut until I got home and then tell her what I was going to say. Well, I just have to blurt out that this is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen knitted. And what's amazing to me is that people are bidding on it! Not that I think that I'm miss Suzy Knitting Queen, but I would have frogged this thing long before the pants portion was added. And I certainly wouldn't have had the nuffies to stick it out on ebay with my butt and thighs in it!

L O N G Weekend

The older two girls just finished a five day weekend, a.k.a. mid-winter break. And although Brian and I ran non-stop all the entire time we have precious little to show for our work. The good news is that our federal and Oregon State (for Brian's guard duty) taxes are now complete. We also completed several pages for the Read and Lead program at the girls' school.

Amber's science fair project is ready to be turned in. We discovered that pre-treating yarn in an alum mordant (10% of yarn's weight worth of alum with water) worked better than pre-treating the yarn with a vinegar and water mordant. The vinegar took the colors faster, but the alum took the colors more evenly and they held up to washing better than the vinegar.

In Olympic news of the knitting type, I finished the second After Bertha sock sometime Friday.

And after several false starts, equipment failures and a complete routine change (different pattern choice) I finished the first of my lace socks. I find knitting the lace much more enjoyable than the plain ribbed patterns.

Well, it's off to bed now. I still hear the girls jumping around and Brian and I are in the middle of watching Pride and Prejudice.
